Do put options date to ancient Greece? Thales bought call options (what one won't do to shake off the ridicule of Thracian slave girls!), but who instituted puts?

John

I should read more carefully; you said options markets, but same question. Thales bought (call) options, but I wonder when the first actual market was created. Do you know of a good book on the history? Something better than "Against the Gods", by which I was underwhelmed.

Yuval Taylor

I don't think there's a book that traces the development of options markets, though I could be wrong. I haven't come across one myself. If you come across one, please let me know--it would make for fascinating reading indeed!
